Chongqing- Testbed 2 is a popular tourist location in the central district of Yuzhong in Chongqing. It sits upon the peninsula heights near E'ling Park, and was formerly a banknote printworks around the 1940s. In recent years, the site became the focus of a great renovation project that has turned the old derelict buildings into a top cultural innovation park, where tourists now flock to enjoy the rich variety of experiences among the architecture that retains its historical charm.
In line with the principle of cultural innovation, all the commercial space available in Testbed 2 is reserved for independent stores, exhibitions, offices and catering. The absense of recognisable brands has preserved its reputation as a unique attraction on the Chongqing tourist trail.
The focus of my vlog post today is a great experience of traditional craftsmanship hidden away in Testbed 2. Among the highlights are pottery artefacts, ancient style printing blocks, Sichuanese opera masks, and intricate door talismans. Later, I try my hand with natural dyes, as the artisan Mu Ning teaches me how to dye a variety of patterns into silk cloth!
