Chongqing Becoming a Global Leader in Developing the Industrial Internet

By VIVIAN YAN|Aug 15,2021

Chongqing- Chongqing's proposal on building a national leading area for Industrial Internet development is to seize the commanding height of a new round of industrial revolution.

As a product of full integration between a new generation of information technology and manufacturing, the Industrial Internet serves as a major trend of global manufacturing development.

A batch of tens of billions of industrial clusters

As a national key modern manufacturing base, Chongqing has formed an industrial system supported by multiple pillars, with electronics, automobile, equipment, chemical, material, consumer goods, and energy industries as the focus.

The city has 39 of China's 41 industrial sectors and serves as the world's largest laptop production base and China's important production base for automobiles, motorcycles, and cell phones.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Chongqing's gross output value of industries above the designated size will exceed three trillion yuan (0.46 trillion U.S. dollars), and a batch of tens of billions of industrial clusters including automobiles, electronics, and equipment will be built.

Ma Huateng, chairman and CEO of Tencent, is optimistic about the advantages held by Chongqing. Ma said Chongqing's manufacturing industry is trying to put together "traditional manufacturing capabilities" and "emerging digital technologies."

Ma thinks, by virtue of emerging digital technologies, Chongqing has the opportunity to perform first-mover advantages.

Global industrial ecosystem based on "Internet of Everything"

Focusing on the three systems of "network, platform, and security," the Industrial Internet identifier resolution system's national top-level node (Chongqing) is put into operation and connected to the second-level nodes.

With the supernode of xinghuo.space and the F-root Domain Name System (DNS) Server, Chongqing has become the first and only city to integrate the three functional nodes of "domain name, identifier, and blockchain" systems.

Li Qiqi, Director of the Operation Center for the National Top-level Node Chongqing, said that the so-called identifier refers to the unique codes given to products and equipment, equivalent to their "identity cards." The information on the whole life cycle of a product or equipment is linked via the identifier.

As the basis of the Industrial Internet, the identifier resolution system, which works like a "nerve center," can effectively realize the all-around interconnection of all elements of the industrial system, the whole industrial chain, and the whole value chain.

Together with the supernode of xinghuo.space, the system can provide a series of services such as identifier registration, identifier resolution, and identifier data sharing worldwide for joint management and governance, promoting the uniqueness guarantee and mutual recognition of identifiers in the world.

This helps enterprises solve the problem of isolated data during digitization and contributes to solving the problem of safe and reliable cross-chain connection, interaction, and interoperability, and realizing the building of the industrial ecosystem based on the "Internet of Everything."

Identifier technology improves application efficiency

As an important part of the identifier resolution system, the second-level nodes provide industry-led services that range from docking with the national top-level nodes of identifier resolution to that of docking with companies' identifier nodes and application systems.

Humi Network, as one of the top ten Industrial Internet identifier analysis professional construction and operation service providers authorized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), operates as the country’s first Industrial Internet identifier resolution secondary node for the motorcycle industry.

Statistics show that the total number of identifier registrations on the Humi Network platform is nearly one billion, and the average daily resolution exceeds 450,000, ranking first in western China.

Focusing on the secondary node platform of identifier resolution, Humi Network has also assisted local and industrial clusters in building the secondary node platforms of identifier resolution across industries and fields. Its multiple application scenarios are taking the lead in China in the application fields of the identifier technology.

Take Qingyun hazardous waste second-level node platform, for example. Through identifier resolution, an immediate response will be made when the hazardous waste is generated to sort out the subsequent process flow.

Utilizing the algorithm, the nearest transportation vehicles will be dispatched and loaded to transport the waste to the nearest hazardous waste disposal enterprise for handling.

"Previously, it took half a month for hazardous waste products to complete the process from its generation to disposal, but now it only takes three or four days," said Chen Hu, senior vice president and CTO of Humi. "Now, the efficiency has been greatly improved."

The platform has been linked to 80% of hazardous waste enterprises in the local area. It has assisted in the local disposal of 100,000 tons of hazardous waste and improved hazardous waste accident handling efficiency by 40%. The platform is also well-received by the local government.

SCE identifier registration volume to exceed five billion

According to Li, up to now, Chongqing has a total of 30 second-level nodes, accessing more than 1,386 enterprises and covering multiple industries, including automotive, motorcycle, construction, building materials, medical equipment, and petrochemical.

In terms of the identifier registration and resolution volume, the registration volume of the top-level node of identifiers in Chongqing has exceeded 3.1 billion, and the daily identifier resolution volume exceeds 14 million.

Li said the identifier registration volume is expected to reach over 5 billion during the SCE this year.
