5.23 Million Visitors, Chongqing Ranks 3rd Most Popular Destinations During Dragon Boat Festival

Chongqing – The A-class tourist attractions in Chongqing received 5.23 million visitors during the Dragon Boat Festival from June 3 to 5.

Data from the online travel platform Fliggy shows that Chongqing ranks third as the most popular destination for the Dragon Boat Festival and fifth as the source of tourists in the country. The destination costs a short distance, and time with high-quality service is preferred.

According to the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, the retail sales of major business districts and key commercial and trade enterprises reached 6.54 billion yuan ($980 million), increasing by 4.3 percent year on year.

Nanchuan Jinfo Mountain received 72,000 tourists, Youyang Taohuayuan received 56,000 tourists, Qianjiang Zhuoshui Scenic Spot received 30,000 tourists, Wushan Small Three Gorges - Small Three Gorges received 26,000 tourists; Hongyadong Folk Customs Area received 117,000 tourists. 

According to projections by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, China's Dragon Boat Festival holiday saw a total of 79.61 million domestic tourist trips. During the holiday, revenue from domestic tourism was 25.82 billion yuan (about $3.85 billion).

Generally, during the holiday, China's cultural and tourism market has maintained a safe, stable, and orderly operation.

Unleash cultural and tourism consumption

With the theme of "Love Chongqing, Renew Consumption," a series of consumption promotion activities were carried out in Chongqing.

Jiangbei District organized Xingguang 68 Plaza and other stores to launch promotional activities. From June 2 to June 4, the average daily traffic of Guanyinqiao business district reached more than 700,000 people; Yuzhong District held Chongqing International Coffee Festival; Jiulongpo District China Resources Mixc City extended operating hours, driving the consumption of the business district to increase by 4.8 percent year-on-year.

The 7th Chongqing Culture and Tourism Consumer-Benefit Season started on April 22, with the theme of "Slow Life in the City, (a) New Experience in the Countryside," issued 3 million yuan of coupons to residents and tourists. 

The coupons covered cultural tourism products such as A-level scenic spots, star-rated hotels, cultural performances, and camping.

To stimulate residents' tourism consumption, 37 districts and counties and 111 scenic spots in the city offered ticket discounts, of which about 80 scenic spots offered a 50 percent discount. 

Chongqing's catering industry is gradually picking up. During the Dragon Boat Festival, some hotpot restaurants even had a long queue of customers at the entrance.

Diverse cultural and artistic activities

The city's 43 public libraries and 41 cultural centers are open free to the public and provide online services with rich content. It is understood that 353,700 people visited the library, and 326,400 people enjoyed online services.

The city has launched 197 cultural activities during the holiday, attracting 147,100 people to participate. Wonderful performances - the Sichuan Opera drama "The Legend of the White Snake," the drama "Foggy Chongqing," the children's drama "The Three Little Pigs," the acrobatic show "Magic City Extreme Happiness Show," the ballet "Animal Carnival: Children's Dreams," and other Dragon Boat Festival concerts and programs - have been widely welcomed by residents and tourists.

Colorful intangible cultural heritage activities

The city's 105 museums and memorial halls launched 63 temporary exhibitions and 82 social and educational activities and received 217,500 visitors.

China Three Gorges Museum carried out the "Tiger Girl Says'Carbon' - Low-Carbon Art Immersive Experience Exhibition," and the Dazu Rock Carving Museum launched "The Realm of Harmony - Li Yunyan's Grottoes Paintings Exhibition," and Natural History Museum hosted "The Beauty of Mine and Rock Exhibition."

Fitness is more popular

According to the data from Olympic Sports Center, Yubei District National Fitness Center, Datianwan National Fitness Center, and other places, fitness has become a new choice for some residents to spend their holidays.

"During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the number of citizens coming to the Olympic Sports Badminton Hall has increased significantly," said the Chongqing Olympic Sports Center manager. The badminton hall was overbooked in the evening period every day.

In addition, niche sports such as frisbee are also popular among some residents.
