Chongqing- With the theme of Digital Publishing Enables High-Quality Development of Digital Economy, the first Western Digital Publishing Annual Conference, that is being held at Nan'an District in Chongqing from October 19 to 20, focuses on new technologies, models, and achievements of the western digital publishing industry.

During the conference, activities involve the release of the 2020-2021 Western Digital Publishing Industry Development Report, the launch of the Western Digital Publishing Premium Project Library, the awarding of the Chongqing Digital Publishing Industry Base, and the signing of digital publishing-related industry projects.

"The digital transformation of the publishing industry is an ongoing process with no end," said Li Hong, deputy secretary-general of the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association.
In terms of the industrial scale, the overall revenue scale of the domestic digital publishing industry in 2019 was 988.143 billion yuan (about 154.59 billion U.S. dollars), up 11.16% from the previous year. Compared to 440.385 billion yuan in 2015, the scale of the digital publishing industry doubled, according to the 2019 – 2020 Chongqing Digital Publication Industry Development Report released by the China Press and Publication Research Institute.
With regard to the technical support system, during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, major publishing science and technology projects, such as the National Digital Composite Publishing System Project, and the Digital Copyright Protection Technology Research and Development Project, etc., have passed the national preliminary examination and evaluation.
Achieving significant phased results, they lay a strong technical foundation for the publishing industry to deepen digital transformation and upgrade and promote integrated development.
"The popularity of the Internet and the rapid development of digital technology have injected strong momentum into the publishing industry," said Li. "The technology-driven digital publishing industry is booming."

Why is the first annual Western Digital Publishing Conference being led by Chongqing? This is due to Chongqing's various unique advantages.
The development of the digital publishing industry in Chongqing ranks at the forefront of the western region. In 2019, the total output of Chongqing's digital publishing industry was 22.511 billion yuan, an increase of 9.95% over the previous year.
Besides, the digital publishing industry of Chongqing has appealed to more than 2,000 related enterprises, which were formed into five major industry clusters, including Internet publishing, educational digital publishing, resource database construction, online game development and publishing, and digital content creativity.
Their total output contributed 0.95% to national economic development in the region, which has strongly contributed to the digital economy in Chongqing.

Meanwhile, Chongqing has established a special research institute to develop digital publishing and formed close cooperation with the China Press and Publication Research Institute.
This will help to enhance the influence and voice of Chongqing's digital publishing industry in the western region and even across the country, attracting more enterprises to settle in Chongqing.
