Located on top of a hill, about 400 meters above sea level in Jiangbei District of Chongqing, Hong’En Temple Forest Park and its famous pagoda towers above the city can be a clear day seen from miles away in all directions. Hong’En Temple Forest Park is one of the largest parks in Chongqing, second only to the Central Park located in the Yubei District. On top of Longji Hill, you will find the Hong’En Fang pagoda, a beautiful structure of seven floors, built-in ancient traditional Chinese style.
BACKGROUND & HISTORY
In July 2005, plans were laid out for the construction of the Hong’En temple park. The project was a large undertaking and required several years of construction and the relocation of more than 37.000 people and 350 township enterprises. From 2005 to 2007, the park was undergoing its construction phase, and flowers, grass, and trees could start to be planted in 2008.
With the construction of this new park, Chongqing aimed to build a famous garden with one of the country’s largest collections of osmanthus flowers. The park is divided into seven areas, each with its own characteristics, and over the course of the year, they were coming to life. Planting of flowers and trees and shaping each of the seven areas continued into 2009, and the park finally opened for the public on October 31st.
Ciqikou remains a representation of Old Chongqing, and as such, is home to a vast number of historical and cultural locations.
Located atop Longjing hill, at the height of 418 meters above level, stands a pagoda that has become quite the hot tourist photo destination in Chongqing. This pagoda was built recently but retained the old traditional Chinese architectural style and lights up beautifully at night. The area immediately surrounding the pagoda offers panoramic views of much of the downtown area of Chongqing. This shining jewel atop the park can be seen for miles around in the evening when the lights are on, and the photos of this spectacular piece of architecture are absolutely stunning.
